How can car paint be damaged?
Car paint can be damaged by a variety of things, including:
- Physical impact: This is the most common cause of car paint damage. Anything that hits your car hard enough can cause the paint to chip or scratch. This includes things like rocks, hail, other cars, and even shopping trolleys.
- Chemicals: Some chemicals can damage car paint, including petrol and brake fluid. If you get any of these substances on your car, it is important to wash it off immediately.
- UV rays: The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can break down the clear coat on your car, which can lead to fading and peeling paint. It is important to park your car in the shade whenever possible and to use a UV protectant sealant on the paint.
- Dirt and debris: If you don’t wash your car regularly, dirt and debris can build up on the paint and cause scratches and abrasions. It is important to wash your car at least once a month, and more often if you live in a dusty or dirty environment.
- Tree sap and bird droppings: Tree sap and bird droppings are acidic and can damage car paint if they are not removed promptly. If you see any of these substances on your car, wash it off immediately.
If you notice any damage to your car’s paint, it is important to have it repaired as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more difficult and expensive it will be to fix the damage.

Paint repair process
Paint repair processes vary depending on whether you have a scratch or a dent that we need to repair first. To learn about these processes please click here. Below is a general process we use when we come to handling mobile paint repair.
Step 1 – Assess and explain
When it comes to car paint repairs, first we will do an assessment what process we will go through on your particular repair. We will have a quick conversation with you to explain the process we intend to take.
Step 2 – Clean and prepare
We’ll then decontaminate the panel(s) and give them a good clean to prepare the surface. We’ll mask the area the avoid damaging panels that are nearby whilst we carry out the work. Then we carry out the essential preparation work.
Step 3 – Prime the area on the car
We’ll work to prime the area ready for the paint to be applied. This will help to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to. After priming the area, we apply heat lamps to cure the product.
Step 4 – Prepare the paint and apply a UV protection-lacquer
We need to mix the paint colour to match the paintwork of the car. We use the latest technology to match the paint so it will be indistinguishable from the rest of the car. Once applied and dried we carry out a further clean. We then undertake final checks before applying a top coat UV protection-lacquer. To set this we apply heat lamps and calculate the curing time according to the technical data sheets.
Step 5 – Polishing
For the best results we polish the area. Polishing will help to remove any imperfections in the paint and to restore the shine.
